The Jeep Compass is Back and Better than Ever

Jeep brand SUVs are some of our hottest selling cars here in the San Fernando Valley, and for good reason. They're comfortable to ride in and drive and can take you from your daily commute to off-road weekend adventures. Plus, as the Jeep Compass demonstrates, they come in a range of sizes, so there's a Jeep SUV for everyone.

At Rydell Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram we were excited to see the Jeep Compass completely redesigned in 2017. It's still a four-door, two-row vehicle with seating for five people. But, the small SUV did receive a number of major updates. Now, the once-overlooked mid-range model is suddenly getting a lot of deserved attention.

The All-New Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass occupies a unique place in the SUV genre because it has no direct competition. It falls in line slightly larger than the subcompact Jeep Renegade, which has several direct competing SUV crossovers. But, the Compass is slightly smaller than the popular Jeep Cherokee, which also has competing cars from other carmakers.

As part of the Compass redesign, Jeep made several welcome changes to the model. These included exterior, cosmetic changes, and some suspension and steering tuning changes, as well as a stronger body. They also added a new trim to the Compass lineup. The trim level options now include:

  • Compass Sport, an economical base trim with cloth seats
  • Compass Latitude, this next trim up comes with upgraded seating fabric and several available add-on packages
  • Compass Limited, is geared toward luxury, with more features and comfort
  • Compass Trailhawk, the new trim added in 2017 is equipped with features designed for off-roading

Jeep Compass Power and Utility

All of the Compass trims come standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The Sport and Latitude come in your choice of either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, but the Limited and Trailhawk versions are strictly all-wheel drive.

When it comes to toting your gear, the Jeep Compass does not disappoint. It has ample cargo space in the rear, measuring about 27.2 cubic feet. Plus, the backseats fold in a 60/40 split, expanding the storage capability to immense proportions.

If you have a lightweight trailer or camper to tow, you'll love the fact that the new Jeep Compass can handle around 2,000 pounds.

Jeep Compass Features and Safety

The Jeep Compass is available with as many or as few tech features as you want. The base trim comes with just a handful of features, and the number increases as you move up trim levels. Depending on which trim you order and what kind of add-on options you go for, your Compass could come with a number of creature comforts, including:

  • Automatic dual-zone climate control
  • Heated front seats
  • Power driver seat

The new Jeep Compass not only gets you to your destination in style, it also gets you there safely. Jeep packs each Compass they make with a host of safety features, including blind spot monitoring system, lane departure warning, and a comprehensive airbag system.
